Planning a summer family vacation is a delicate balancing act. You want to soak in the spectacular mountain views; your teenagers want high-speed thrills; the youngest wants to eat snacks. Meanwhile, you are constantly fighting the gravitational pull of everyone’s smartphones.
If you are currently mapping out things to do in Eastern Idaho and want an experience that will actually get your entire crew smiling, laughing, and completely unplugged, you need to look past the crowded national park boardwalks and standard hiking trails.
The secret to an unforgettable trip? Getting off the pavement. Here is exactly why renting a 4-seater side-by-side (UTV) from Joyride Rentals is the ultimate family bonding experience, and how we make it incredibly easy for parents to pull off.
For a quick summary, a 4-seater side-by-side rental is the perfect family activity because it blends the thrill of a roller coaster with the raw, untouched beauty of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Instead of hiking single-file in silence, your whole family is seated together in one highly capable, incredibly safe vehicle. It forces you to put the screens away, talk to each other, and share the same adventure.
It is usually the very first question we get from parents. When you hear the word ” off-roading,” you might picture extreme dirt bikers flying over jumps. That isn’t what we do.
Modern 4-seater side-by-sides are built for incredibly safe, kid-friendly off-roading. Unlike traditional ATVs (four-wheelers), where you straddle a seat and balance your own body weight, a UTV is built much like an open-air Jeep.
You get to control the speed. Whether you want to slowly crawl up a scenic path to look for wildlife or pick up the pace on a wide-open dirt road, you are completely in the driver’s seat.
Let’s face it: getting kids (and adults) to ignore their notifications on vacation is tough. But when you are strapped into a side-by-side, bumping along a forest road with the wind in your face and the engine roaring, pulling out an iPad isn’t an option.
A 4-seater UTV puts everyone in the same space. You’ll find yourselves shouting over the engine to point out a moose in the trees, laughing hysterically when dad hits a massive mud puddle, and pulling over at remote overlooks to take family photos that will actually make it onto the holiday card. It is a shared, visceral experience that a standard sightseeing drive can’t replicate.
When looking for family activities in Swan Valley, Idaho, you won’t find a better basecamp than our hometown. Swan Valley sits right on the edge of the majestic Palisades Reservoir and the sprawling Caribou-Targhee National Forest.
By renting a UTV, you instantly gain access to hundreds of miles of pristine backcountry that regular rental cars could never dream of reaching. You can pack a cooler with sandwiches, drive up to a secluded mountain meadow for a private family picnic, and skip rocks across the reservoir without another tourist in sight.
The biggest hurdle for vacationing families is logistics. You want to rent the machine, but you don’t have a heavy-duty truck to tow it to the mountain.
At Joyride Rentals, we’ve solved that problem completely. You don’t need a massive diesel truck to have a great time. When you book with us, you can rent a reliable truck, a tow trailer, and your UTV right off our lot.
We call it our “Tow and Go” setup. We hitch the trailer, load your 4-seater side-by-side, strap it down securely, and show you exactly how to tow it before you leave the lot. You get the ultimate freedom to drive from our headquarters in Swan Valley straight to the trailhead on your own family’s schedule—no waiting around for delivery drivers, and no stress.
You only get so many summers before the kids grow up and start taking their own vacations. Make this one count. Skip the crowded tourist traps, grab some helmets, and get ready to eat a little dust together.
Give your family an adventure they’ll be talking about for years. Reach out to Joyride Rentals in Swan Valley today to book your 4-seater UTV and Tow Package!
How old do kids need to be to ride in a side-by-side? While there is no strict state minimum age for passengers in a UTV, children must be large enough to safely and securely fit in the vehicle’s seatbelts or harnesses (usually meaning they have outgrown traditional forward-facing car seats). Helmets are required for all riders under 18, and we highly recommend them for everyone.
Do you provide helmets for kids? Yes! We provide premium, DOT-approved helmets with your rental to ensure your entire family is protected and comfortable.
Is it too dusty for younger kids? Summer trails can get dusty, especially when following another vehicle. We recommend bringing sunglasses or goggles for eye protection, and many families like to bring lightweight neck gaiters or bandanas for the kids to pull over their noses and mouths on dry trail days.
